Recruiting Volunteers

Bradford Doulas Project

Doulas are experienced women that help other women through pregnancy and childbirth.  Their function is to give continuous emotional and physical support. The Doulas are trained volunteers that work with expectant mothers from about two months before the birth to about 6 weeks after supporting mums on breastfeeding, giving a range of support that varies according to an individual situation.

The training to become a qualified doula requires completion of OCN level 2 & 3 which is 6 credits. The Breastfeeding Team from NHS provided a two day training course that will gain an additional 3 credits towards an OCN qualification for Bradford Doula volunteers. Other additional training such as safeguarding children, domestic violence and vulnerable adults is included in the programme.
